About Vergeside

Hey there, my name is Benedict, I'm a Perth local.

This site was created to improve upon an existing vergeside pickup map that was created by Matt McGlew in 2011. The map proved to be very popular, and at the time of writing has been viewed over 500,000 times. However, I saw an opportunity to improve upon this map in couple of ways:

  • There was no search by date functionality in the map
  • It was difficult to update the map with new information

The platform centralizes this information and presents it visually, making it much easier for residents to plan their waste disposal efficiently.

Our Mission

Vergeside.com.au aims to be the most comprehensive resource for finding bulk waste collection information across WA. Please note that the site has no affiliation with local government and for the most accurate up to date information you should contact your local council directly.

What Are Vergeside Collections?

Vergeside collections (also known as bulk rubbish collections, hard waste, or kerbside collections) are special waste collection services provided by local councils where residents can place large household items on the verge in front of their property for collection.

These collections allow residents to dispose of items too large for regular bin collection, such as furniture, appliances, and garden waste. The service frequency varies by council, usually occurring between 1-4 times per year.

Why I Created This Service

Our Goals
  • ✅ Provide accurate, up-to-date collection information
  • ✅ Make finding vergeside pickup dates simple and intuitive
  • ✅ Cover as many Australian council areas as possible
  • ✅ Help reduce illegal dumping by improving access to collection information
  • ✅ Promote responsible waste management practices

How Vergeside.com.au Works

1. Visit the Map Page

Our color-coded system makes it easy to see when collections are happening near you. Tap on individual council areas that are highlighted to see more information about a scheduled collection. You can adjust the date range to see collections that are happening further in the future.

2. Check Collection Dates

Select a date range to view what collections are happening around Perth for a given time period.

Data Accuracy

The pickup dates and pickup areas has been pulled from individual council websites as well as from Nearmaps.

However, councils may occasionally change collection schedules with limited notice. We always recommend verifying the information with your local council if you're planning a major cleanup.

If you notice any discrepancies or have more recent information, please let us know so we can update our database.
